Sample Answer
In my opinion, verbal promises can often be viewed as less binding than written agreements, primarily due to their inherent ambiguity. Written contracts offer a clear, tangible representation of the terms agreed upon, allowing for far less room for misinterpretation. Furthermore, written documents can serve as legal evidence in court, thereby providing a degree of security and enforceability that verbal commitments typically lack. However, it’s essential to acknowledge that the trustworthiness of individuals plays a critical role in the effectiveness of verbal promises. In close personal relationships, for instance, a verbal assurance might carry significant weight, transcending formal contractual obligations. Ultimately, the binding nature of a promise—whether verbal or written—often depends on the context and the parties’ intentions, alongside societal norms regarding trust and accountability.
