Sample Answer
Social media platforms, while undeniably influential, often lack the reliability one would expect from reputable news sources. The rapid dissemination of information on these platforms can facilitate the spread of misinformation and sensationalism. Users frequently curate their own news feeds, which may lead to echo chambers, reinforcing biases rather than presenting a well-rounded perspective. Furthermore, the lack of editorial oversight on many of these platforms raises questions about the accuracy and verification of the information shared.
However, social media can be invaluable for real-time updates during crises when traditional media might be slower to respond. Thus, while it has its merits, I believe that the inherent risks associated with misinformation make social media an unreliable primary source for news. Instead, it should be supplemented with rigorous journalistic standards from established media outlets.
