Sample Answer
One of the most significant places I visited that has been severely affected by pollution is the city of Delhi, India. I traveled there last year, and I was shocked by the level of air pollution I encountered. As I walked around the city, I noticed a thick haze that hung over many neighborhoods, causing visibility issues and making it difficult to breathe. The air quality was so poor that it often registered as hazardous on the air quality index.
The primary type of pollution I witnessed in Delhi was air pollution, stemming from a variety of sources. Transportation emissions from the countless vehicles on the road are a major contributor, particularly with the high number of diesel engines. Moreover, industrial emissions from factories surrounding the city, coupled with the burning of agricultural waste in nearby rural areas, exacerbate the problem.
The causes of this pollution are multifaceted, rooted in rapid urbanization and population growth, which increase demand for energy and transport. It was disheartening to see how such development came at the cost of the environment and residents’ health. Experiencing this firsthand left me feeling deeply concerned. I believe that there needs to be greater awareness and significant action taken to tackle pollution, not just in Delhi but worldwide. This experience has shaped my views on environmental issues, emphasizing the urgent need for collective efforts toward sustainability.
