Sample Answer
I would like to talk about a visit I made to the once-beautiful coastal city of Durban in South Africa a few years ago. This location is known for its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and rich marine biodiversity. However, I was shocked to observe the alarming levels of pollution that had marred its beauty.
The type of pollution that stood out the most was water pollution. The ocean water near the shore was littered with plastic waste and other debris. Additionally, there were noticeable oil slicks in certain areas. This pollution negatively impacted the local marine life, leading to the death of fish and other sea creatures, which I learned about from local conservation groups. It also discouraged the locals and tourists from swimming or enjoying the beach, significantly affecting the local economy that heavily relies on tourism.
Witnessing this firsthand was disheartening. I felt a mix of sadness and anger; sadness for the loss of such a vital part of the ecosystem and anger at the careless human activities that led to this environmental degradation. This experience opened my eyes to the pressing issue of pollution and reinforced my belief in the necessity for sustainable practices. Overall, my visit to Durban, while beautiful in some aspects, left me deeply concerned about the future of such places if pollution continues to be ignored.
