Sample Answer
The relationship between intelligence and selfishness is a nuanced one. While it might be tempting to associate higher intelligence with self-serving behavior, I believe this is an oversimplification. Intelligent individuals often possess enhanced cognitive empathy, allowing them to understand and appreciate the feelings and perspectives of others. This understanding can foster altruistic behavior, as they recognize the broader societal implications of their actions.
However, it is also possible for intelligent individuals to exploit their cognitive abilities for personal gain, particularly if they operate in competitive environments where individualism is rewarded. In essence, intelligence can be a double-edged sword; it can either enhance one’s capacity for empathy and cooperation or facilitate self-interested actions. Ultimately, it is the combination of personality traits and environmental influences that plays a critical role in determining whether someone is selfish or altruistic.
