Sample Answer
While there are compelling arguments on both sides of the zoo debate, I firmly believe that animals should not be kept in captivity. Primarily, zoos can often fail to provide environments that adequately replicate the animals' natural habitats, leading to psychological stress and abnormal behaviors, commonly referred to as zoochosis. Furthermore, the ethical implications surrounding the confinement of sentient beings for human entertainment are profound; animals have intrinsic value that should be respected, rather than commodified. Conversely, some argue that zoos contribute to conservation efforts and education. However, I contend that these objectives could be more effectively achieved through the establishment of wildlife sanctuaries and protected reserves where animals can thrive in their natural environments. Overall, the moral and welfare considerations overwhelmingly support the notion that animals deserve to live freely.
