Who do you think should be responsible for the public parks and gardens in a town or city? (Why?)

In my opinion, the responsibility for public parks and gardens should primarily lie with local government authorities. This is due to their obligation to serve the community and ensure public spaces are well-maintained and accessible to all. Local governments possess the resources and expertise required to manage urban greenery effectively, from regular maintenance and landscaping to implementing sustainable practices that counteract environmental issues such as urban heat islands. Furthermore, they can engage community stakeholders and local organizations in decision-making processes, fostering a sense of shared ownership and responsibility among residents. However, it is also crucial for citizens to participate actively in the upkeep of these areas. By collaborating with authorities, communities can cultivate a greater appreciation for their green spaces, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of life in urban environments.
